Google G1

Google created its own mobile phone to ensure people had a good experience with Android when it first launched. The challenge was how to translate Google’s much loved online qualities to a physical product. G1 is a highly-utilitarian phone that makes the most of Android’s functionality.

Function supported Google from the start, collaborating with designers, creating the initial architecture, developing the patentable mechanism, and working with the original design manufacturer, HTC, to launch the product. The slider mechanism enables G1’s compact footprint but opens to reveal a full five-line qwerty keypad.
