For people on the go, laptops are slow to boot and heavy to lug for impromptu writing. Conversely, pocket PDAs do not support typing. Collapsing a full-size, PDA-ready keyboard was the answer, but also a technical challenge. Function set out to design a PDA keyboard for Think Outside that was lightweight, compact and durable, yet featured full-size keys and high quality tactile feel. Function developed the conceptual design and folding mechanism design for the keyboard. The folded size is minimized by compressing the keys and locking at several points. The unit holds the PDA in position and supports multiple PDA formats through modular interfaces. It received design awards from the IDSA and I.D. Magazine.
