How do you develop a toy gun that maximizes shooting range for fun, yet minimizes propulsion and impact for safety? That was the challenge behind the Vortex®.

Function Engineering created the conceptual design, trigger and launch mechanisms, and the case design for this ray-gun like launcher. Function Engineering also consulted with ballistics experts to achieve the distance / accuracy characteristics. The toy launches aerodynamic soft plastic rings that fly in a spinning motion to maximize distance and accuracy. The unit met all consumer safety requirements and spawned a complete line of toys based on the design. This product was awarded patents 5,970,970 and 6,076,511.
