Portable shelters for picnics and beach trips need to be lightweight and easy to set up by a single person. Coleman wanted to develop an innovative product for the instant shelter market without infringing on competitive patents.
Function Engineering developed a central hub concept that uses a novel 6-bar mechanism that allows the shelter to be deployed in under 2 minutes. Function developed a production design that was lightweight, ruggedly built and low-cost to produce. Patent is pending.
