Clover Mechanism

Clover wanted to develop a point-of-sale station for its retail transaction platform. The device’s display was to have one touch screen shared between the clerk and customer, with a distinctive way of flipping between the two.

Function conceived of a range of mechanism concepts to achieve the desired experience. Our detailed design of the preferred direction allowed the mechanism to appear incredibly simple relative to its underlying motion angles. The compound tilted pivot flips between landscape facing the clerk and portrait facing the customer, working naturally with gravity to achieve an elegant motion and feel.
